S.C. Myers & Associates, Inc. (SCM&A) was sub-contracted by Parsons Transportation Group of Hanover, Maryland, to perform construction inspection and estimating services at BWI’s new 510,000 square-foot Southwest Terminal A/B complex, which opened for use on May 18, 2005.
The $264 million project included, but isnot limited to, design, demolition of the old Concourse A, airline relocations, site preparations, and construction of the new terminal. The new terminal and concourses have 26 gates which can accommodate up to 210 Southwest flights daily.
The new terminal includes an automated baggage screening system and a 325-seat food court area
with restaurants such as McDonald’s, Phillips Seafood, California Tortilla, Quizno’s Subs, and many others. Additionally, some stores available to ticketed passengers include Jos. A. Bank Clothiers and Borders.
As a sub-consultant to Parsons Transportation Group, S.C. Myers & Associates, Inc. (SCM&A) has provided construction management and field inspection services to the Baltimore Washington International (BWI) and Martin State (MTN) Airports on the construction of a 370,000 sf New International Terminal, a new eight-bay, 33,400 sf Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Station Building.
The project also includes a 58,000 sf air cargo building, a 5,600 sf parking lot facility, and new access roads to the Station Building. The critical nature of construction activities required that a specialized staff perform all inspection disciplines that have been supplied by SCM&A. SCM&A’s proactive approach to managing construction activities has been instrumental in
completing tasks on schedule and in accordance with approved project plans and specifications. |
